OUR ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS
HOMESTAY accommodation - living with a local family in their house or apartment - is our most popular option.
OPTION A: A single room, with breakfast and dinner every day, costs 150 British pounds per week.
OPTION B: For couples, a shared room with breakfast and dinner every day costs 240 British pounds per couple per week.
For students who do not want to eat dinner with the family, we offer the 'Private Home' option, living with a local family in their house or apartment:
OPTION C: A single room with breakfast every day costs 120 British pounds per week.
OPTION D: For couples, a shared room with breakfast every day costs 180 British pounds per couple per week.
Most families live in Travel Zones 2 or 3 , and the total journey time to school varies from about 2 minutes to about 40 minutes. The check-in day is the Sunday before the start of the course. The check-out day is the Saturday after the end of the course.
LOCAL HOTEL ACCOMMODATION can also be arranged. A single room with breakfast costs about 65 British pounds per night. A shared room costs about 90 pounds.
LOCAL APARTMENTS can be rented for short periods and cost at least 600 British pounds per week. Longer term rentals (over six months) are often cheaper.
STUDENT RESIDENCE ACCOMMODATION is available in central London. It costs about 200 British pounds per week, including breakfast.
OUR SOCIAL PROGRAMME offers a wide variety of optional activities after class: wine tasting, theatre and cinema visits, pub crawls, dancing, Premier League football matches, museum and gallery visits, restaurant evenings, sightseeing in London, and Saturday excursions to towns outside London. There are normally 4 events each week. Those held inside the school are free. Visits to the cinema, theatre, etcetera cost between 5 and 15 pounds. Saturday excursions normally cost about 40 pounds.
OUR STUDENTS are all over 18 years old and are mainly professional people - office workers, University students, teachers, managers, doctors and nurses, hotel and tourism staff and government officials. We have also taught professional footballers, actors, singers, princes and princesses, and - of course - retired people. The average age of our students is around 25, but we often have students who are 40, 50 or older. Over 60 percent of our students come from the European Union, but we also have students from Switzerland, Japan, Korea, Brazil and the Middle East.
Our Students normally spend between 70 and 100 British pounds per week on lunch, tourism and shopping. A 3-zone bus and underground Travel Card costs about 35 pounds per week. The nearest underground stations to Academy SJW are Maida Vale on the Bakerloo line and Swiss Cottage on the Jubilee line.
Travel Insurance to cover the student during the period of the course is important, and it should be obtained before arriving in the UK. Academy SJW is happy to help with this, if requested.
Payment for courses at Academy SJW can be made by credit card, bank transfer or British cheque. The cost of courses is 260 British pounds per week for the first 14 weeks, then 180 pounds for each additional week.
Students who are European Union citizens (or citizens of Switzerland, Iceland and Norway) do not need a Student Visa.
Students from outside the European Union will need to apply to the British Government 'UK Border Agency' (UKBA) for a Student Visitor Visa (SVV) for a short course, or a General Student Visa (GSV) for a course of over 6 months. These students must pay their full course fees first.
